Poppa's House: release date, cast and everything we know about the new comedy

The Wayans family continues their historic run on the small screen, as Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. headline the new sitcom, Poppa’s House. The show comes on the heels of In Living Color, the sketch-comedy series spearheaded by Keenen Ivory Wayans and starred his siblings, The Wayans Bros starring Shawn and Marlon Wayans and Damon Wayans’ popular sitcom My Wife and Kids, among other shows.  

In the brand-new series, Damon and Damon Jr. team up to provide laughs as they tackle generational differences, family dynamics and all the various things life throws at them. 

Here's everything we know about Poppa's House. 

Poppa's House release date

Poppa's House debuts on Monday, October 21, at 8:30 pm ET/PT on CBS, right after The Neighborhood season 7 premiere.

Here's a synopsis of the pilot episode: 

"Poppa's House starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., features Wayans as legendary talk radio host and happily divorced Poppa who has his point of view challenged at work when Ivy (Essence Atkins), a new female co-host, is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son, Junior, a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband to Nina (Tetona Jackson). In the series premiere, Poppa gets surprised at work when corporate brings in brainy psychologist Dr. Ivy Reid to add a female perspective to his radio show. Also, Junior gets fired by Nina’s dad when he misses a big sales pitch to apply for a directing job." 

For those without traditional cable/satellite television, CBS is available through a number of live TV streaming services such as Fubo, Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV. Paramount Plus with Showtime subscribers and subscribers to the CBS app also have the opportunity to watch episodes live as they air. Additionally, new episodes become available to stream the day after they air for Paramount Plus Essential subscribers. 

A UK release date for the series has not been announced, but when one becomes available, we'll pass along the information. 

Poppa's House plot

Here is the official synopsis of the series: 

"Poppa's House, starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., features Wayans as legendary talk radio host and happily divorced 'Poppa' who has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son, a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband."

As previously mentioned, the Poppa’s House cast is led by Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. The former has many years of experience on TV having starred in things like In Living Color, My Wife and Kids and the Lethal Weapon series. 

Daman Wayans Jr. has also had a successful run on TV having starred in New Girl and Happy Endings, and he recently appeared in the movie Players

The father/son duo is joined by Essence Atkins (First Wives Club) and Tetona Jackson (Good Trouble).
